Níjar is blessed with nearly 3,000 hours of sunlight over an average of more than 320 sunny days per year (six hours of sunlight in January and twelve in July).
It has an arid sub-tropical climate with less than 200 mm per annum of rainfall and is the only large European city with this climatic type. Mean annual temperature is above 19 ºC. It has hot summers with no rain between June and September and the warmest winters of any place in Europe.
